Job Description

This role starts as a contract with the intention of flipping to being a permanent hire after approximately 1 year. MVP Talent Corp is a leading boutique Professional Workforce Planning Services Company matching esteemed clients with top quartile candidates. In this role, the Engineer with be responsible for the electrical design of systems across power distribution, control, communication, and lighting applications within commercial, institutional, and municipal sectors.

Performs detailed technical analyses utilizing industry-standard software for load calculations, arc flash assessments, fault analysis, coordination studies, and overall power system design. Conducts on-site electrical investigations, including construction audits and field reviews, ensuring compliance with design intent and applicable standards. Prepares clear, concise, and comprehensive technical documentation such as feasibility studies, proposals, reports, and formal written instructions.

Overseas project planning activities by developing schedules, defining tasks, and executing electrical system studies. Prepares material specifications along with capital and engineering cost estimates, while reviewing and validating technical designs and proposed solutions. Coordinates closely with clients to support the development and successful delivery of engineering projects.

Develops engineering proposals, cost estimates, equipment specifications, and detailed design documentation. Works collaboratively with Project Managers and Project Engineers to ensure interdisciplinary coordination and maintain high-quality project outcomes. Monitors and controls design budgets, working alongside Project Controls teams to ensure cost efficiency.

Provides mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and designers, fostering professional growth and knowledge sharing. Builds and maintains strong client relationships while ensuring all activities align with internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Maintains strict adherence to health and safety policies, consistently promoting safe work practices and promptly reporting any incidents or concerns.

Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional development, staying current with evolving technologies, standards, and industry practices. Performs additional duties as required to support project and organizational objectives. MUST HAVE Skills and Qualifications: Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or completion of an Electrical Technologist program.

Possesses, or is eligible for, Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA. Brings a minimum of 15 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, including expertise in low- and medium-voltage system design. Demonstrates experience in protection relaying and power system studies, as well as working with power utilities, including substation design, grounding systems, and high-voltage overhead lines.

Experience in sectors such as pulp and paper, oil refining, oil sands, gas processing, pipeline stations (including pump, compressor, and metering), power generation, and mining is considered an asset. Familiarity with systems operating at 69 kV and above is also advantageous.
