Job Description
Responsibilities Provides technical support and assists in training goals for maintenance and production. Coordinates electrical activities for the hot end, coatings, cold end, facilities and grounds at the Ottawa site to ensure optimum efficiency and cost, preventing production delays and maintaining maintenance costs. Manages, evaluates and implements projects that improve costs, value, quality and safety.
Continually works with engineering staff at the plant and technical center level to improve existing designs, reducing manufacturing costs. Investigates and provides consultation and analysis of problems related to electrical supply, computer technologies and control systems; programs new or modifies existing computer software to support cost reductions, process improvements and better userâfriendliness. Performs assignments (normal, special & emergency) as directed by the Maintenance & Engineering Group Leader, providing complete professional services through engineering and maintenance teams.
Works individually or as a team member to provide integrated solutions for technical or businessârelated production problems. Maintains proficiency in CAD and document control applied to electrical and mechanical drawings of equipment, infrastructure, facility and grounds; updates drawings to keep them accurate and current. Interfaces with the plant safety coordinator to integrate electrical safety into new and modified designs.
Provides supervision to contractors for new and modified equipment and to inâplant personnel participating in project engineering. Relationships & Collaboration Maintains ongoing communication within engineering group and other departments to ensure team interaction. Stays current with trends and design developments implemented by Pilkington Technical/Engineering personnel and provides appropriate feedback as it relates to plant operation.
Has a complete and thorough knowledge of plans, programs and activities with production, quality, accounting and material management. Maintains working relationships with contract services for project improvements and maintenance services. Keeps up to date with current technical and professional developments in related fields by reviewing information and participating in technical groups and seminars.
Training Requirements Learn how company accounting procedures work and how they relate to project management. Become acquainted with common glassâmaking terms used within the company. Be trained on ISO9000 and ISO14001 procedures as they relate to engineering.
Attend training schools to learn procedures needed to work with specialized processes or machines introduced at the plant. Qualification Requirements Must have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. Must be able to read electrical schematics and relay ladder schematics.
Must have CAD proficiency and document organization skills. Should understand highâvoltage circuits (above 480 volts) and power feeds; understand safetyârelated issues to such circuits. Needs strong communication and people skills; possesses good problemâsolving abilities.
Other duties as assigned by your manager. Preferred Qualifications Must be able to program and troubleshoot programmable logic controller relay ladder logic programs and electrical systems; experience programming BASIC and C languages; other software languages are helpful. Should have experience designing electrical circuits and systems for industrial control; understand OSHA and NEC specifications and have working knowledge of how these codes should be applied to electrical designs.
