Number of Vacancies: 1 Type of Contract: Temporary Hours of Work: 35 Hours/Week Compensation: $22.60 Job Code: 2-CSJ-2026 Contract Start Date: TBD Contract End Date: July 31, 2026 Posting Start Date: May 25th, 2026 Department: Centre of Innovation Location: Hamilton, ON Responsibilities The Economic Development Coordinator Summer Student plays a vital role in our organization, serving as a catalyst for creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning within our YWCA Hamilton community. With a strong commitment to education and a passion for fostering a culture of making, the Economic Development Coordinator Summer Student is responsible for supporting a dynamic and inclusive environment where individuals of all ages can explore, design, and bring their ideas to life. The Economic Development Coordinator, Summer Student not only supports in facilitating the use of cutting-edge technology and tools but also instills a sense of curiosity, collaboration, and confidence in all who enter the MakerSpace, ultimately shaping the next generation of innovators and problem solvers. Act as part of a team responsible for the planning and executing the day-to-day operations of the MakerSpace, ensuring it is well-maintained and all equipment is in working order; Work with limited pieces of client confidential data and ensure that such data is stored in accordance with YWCA policies; Collaborate with educators to develop and deliver MakerSpace programs that align with curriculum standards; Collect feedback from members and work with the team to suggest any improvements; Maintain records of MakerSpace activities, usage, and program participation; Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs or maintenance as necessary; Organize and participate in community events to showcase the MakerSpace's offerings with the Centre of Innovation Team; Build strong and positive relationships with clients in a cohesive and respectful environment; Work in partnership with other department staff responsible for the delivery of women’s entrepreneurship programs; Adhere to Health and Safety policies and procedures, and report hazards as required; Comply with relevant laws and policies (OHSA, WSIB, Human Rights, ESA); Participate in Health & Safety training and staff/team meetings; Maintain confidentiality/privacy when working with client information; Support the YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values; Performs other duties as required. Qualifications Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment; Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations; Enrolled in or completed post-secondary education in Economic Development, Business, Entrepreneurship or related discipline (or equivalent experience); Current knowledge of business-related software and technology; Background in project-based learning or STEM/STEAM education; Experience with educational program development and management; Proficiency with a variety of tools and equipment commonly found in MakerSpaces (e.g., 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, sewing machines, Cricut machines); Familiarity with safety protocols and best practices in a MakerSpace; Knowledge of software tools relevant to MakerSpace operations, such as Circuit Design Space, Orca Slicer, CAD, Fusion 360; Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost; Ability to lead and work from a feminist, anti-racist / anti-oppressive perspective for operations and strategic planning; Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and also work effectively in a team; Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
