Distinguished Engineer – Toronto, Canada Capital One Canada is a leading fintech company dedicated to simplifying banking. We are looking for a Distinguished Engineer to shape the future of banking in the cloud, driving innovation and excellence across our engineering organization. Responsibilities Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for your domain Decompose complex problems into practical and operational solutions Ensure the quality of technical design and implementation Serve as an authoritative expert on non-functional system characteristics such as performance, scalability, and operability Continue learning and injecting advanced technical knowledge into the community Handle several projects simultaneously, balancing time to maximize impact Act as a role model and mentor within the tech community, coaching and strengthening the technical expertise of engineering and product colleagues Basic Qualifications At least 10 years of software engineering or software development experience At least 7 years of public cloud experience (AWS, GCP, Azure) Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field 12+ years of professional experience coding in commonly used languages such as Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, Kotlin, etc. 8+ years of experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support 6+ years of experience with private cloud technologies 8+ years of experience with networking technologies (BGP, Wi-Fi, SD-WAN, cloud networking, and data center networking) Benefits Hybrid work environment with 3 days in office, one-time work-from-home allowance, full coverage for spouses, domestic partners, and dependents, up to $3,000 in mental health coverage and up to $5,000 in tuition subsidies per year.
