Lead the future of Outdoor Education

\n

Brisbane Girls Grammar School is seeking an experienced and accomplished Director of Outdoor Education to provide strategic and educational leadership for the School’s Outdoor Education programs.

\n

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and deliver high-quality outdoor learning experiences for students, lead a dedicated team and contribute to the broader educational objectives of the School.

\n

Based at the School’s Marrapatta Memorial Outdoor Education Centre in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, this unique role combines educational leadership, curriculum development, people leadership and operational oversight in an exceptional natural environment.

\n

Reporting to the Deputy Principal, the Director will lead the strategic development, delivery and continuous improvement of Outdoor Education across the School.

\n

The Outdoor Education team contributes to a range of activities beyond the core program, including subject-specific activities, co-curricular programs, community user groups, and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions.

\n

The position offers the opportunity to live onsite at Marrapatta and be immersed in the School’s Outdoor Education program and the surrounding natural environment. Onsite accommodation is available by arrangement, providing a distinctive lifestyle opportunity for an experienced Outdoor Education leader seeking to combine professional leadership with a strong connection to community, nature and outdoor learning.

The commencement date for this position is negotiable, providing an opportunity to accommodate the successful candidate’s existing professional commitments.

As the Director, you will:

\n

\n
• In collaboration with the Deputy Principal, set the strategic vision and direction for Outdoor Education and lead its continuous improvement
\n
• Develop and lead innovative, evidence-based and student-centred Outdoor Education programs
\n
• Oversee the planning and delivery of programs, expeditions and other outdoor learning experiences
\n
• Lead, develop and build the capability of a high-performing Outdoor Education team
\n
• Champion contemporary Outdoor Education pedagogy and its contribution to student learning, wellbeing and development
\n
• Ensure the highest standards of safety, risk management, compliance and emergency preparedness
\n
• Manage program budgets, facilities, equipment and other resources effectively
\n
• Build strong relationships with professional networks, community organisations and relevant external stakeholders.
\n

The position will involve varied working hours according to program requirements, including overnight programs and occasional weekend and term-break work.

\n

We are seeking an experienced Outdoor Education professional who combines outdoor educational leadership with strong people, operational and risk management capability.

\n

You will bring:

\n

\n
• Relevant tertiary qualifications Outdoor Education, together with teaching qualifications
\n
• Demonstrated experience developing innovative, evidence-based and student-centred Outdoor Education curriculum and learning programs.
\n
• Strong knowledge of contemporary Outdoor Education philosophy, pedagogy and practice
\n
• Demonstrated experience managing staff, budgets, facilities, equipment and other resources
\n
• Demonstrated understanding of outdoor activity safety, risk management, compliance and emergency response
\n
• Highly developed strategic, organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
\n
• A strong commitment to student wellbeing, personal development and positive relationships.
\n
