Director of Engineering – Ferry NOTE: The following position is for a proposed new/future business within Transdev. Only candidates meeting the work experience requirements will be considered. Transdev is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead all engineering and maintenance functions for our San Francisco Ferry operations.

This role is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of vessels and related infrastructure, while maintaining full compliance with regulatory, environmental, and contractual requirements. Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Engineering will oversee maintenance strategy, asset management, and engineering teams, while driving operational excellence and continuous improvement. Competitive compensation package of minimum $150,000 – maximum $200,000 Benefits Vacation: minimum of two weeks Sick days: 5 days Holidays: 12 days; 8 standard and 4 floating Other standard benefits: 401(k) retirement plan, medical, dental and vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, and voluntary long‑term disability.

Key Responsibilities Lead all vessel maintenance and engineering operations to ensure safe, reliable service delivery Develop and execute preventive and corrective maintenance programs for fleet and equipment Ensure compliance with USCG regulations, federal/state requirements, and environmental standards Oversee engineering staff, including maintenance managers, supervisors, and technical teams Manage asset performance, lifecycle planning, and capital improvement initiatives Partner with operations leadership to minimize service disruptions and optimize fleet availability Monitor and control maintenance budgets, costs, and inventory Support safety programs and promote a strong safety‑first culture across all engineering functions Collaborate with the client and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and performance standards are met Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, reliability, and cost‑effectiveness Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) 10+ years of progressive engineering/maintenance leadership experience, preferably in marine transportation USCG license or relevant maritime certifications strongly preferred Proven experience managing fleet maintenance, shipyard activities, and regulatory compliance Strong leadership experience in complex, safety‑critical environments Key Skills Extensive knowledge of marine engineering systems and vessel operations Familiarity with USCG regulations and maritime compliance requirements Experience managing budgets, capital projects, and asset lifecycle planning Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills Ability to lead teams in a fast‑paced, highly regulated environment Proficiency with maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
