Overview Prospr is Sun Life's digital front door for Canadians, building a platform that lets people buy products online in minutes or virtually through licensed advisors. The platform is built with AI and creates omnichannel experiences at the speed customers now expect. Responsibilities Set technical strategy and operating standards to enable teams to ship.
Own end‑to‑end delivery, quality, reliability, and people leadership across multiple squads. Lead engineering managers and individual contributors, fostering autonomous squads. Define and track delivery, quality, and operational metrics to ensure predictable outcomes.
Partner with senior leaders on delivery and technical strategy. Success Factors Squads ship consistently and predictably with high quality, driving business outcomes. Engineering managers and staff engineers deliver impact while growing.
Leadership trusts your judgment and commitments. Systems scale without bottlenecks, supporting customer growth and reliability. Who You Are Engineering leader from product‑driven companies (startups, scale‑ups, high‑velocity digital orgs).

Comfortable navigating both startup chaos and enterprise constraints. Ownership mentality focused on outcomes, not just outputs. Startup DNA; has competed against InsurTech/FinTech players.
What You Bring 10+ years professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years engineering leadership. Expertise with Java (or other suitable back‑end languages), React (or similar modern JavaScript), and enterprise integrations. Experience with Salesforce is an asset. 3+ years leading Engineering Managers / Team Leads and scaling delivery across multiple squads.
Demonstrated success owning end‑to‑end delivery for customer‑facing digital products. Experience setting and running an engineering operating cadence (prioritization, planning, execution, dependencies, quality, incident learnings). Strong track record in hiring, talent development, coaching managers, and performance management.
Technical breadth and credibility, guiding strategy and setting standards for quality, reliability, and maintainability. Experience partnering with Product, Design, and senior stakeholders to navigate trade‑offs, risk, and timelines. Why This Role Build products that shape Sun Life’s future with real user impact.
