Job Description
A leading nonprofit is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead its Data Science & Engineering department, cultivating a dataâcentric culture by building teams, infrastructure, systems, and services that enable organizational insights and power dataâdriven product experiences. The department includes the organization's full data function, analytics, reporting, data warehousing, and ETL infrastructure, and plays a central role in transforming data into a strategic advantage for missionâdriven initiatives. WHAT YOU WILL DO Partner with organizational leaders to develop and execute a data strategy aligned with shortâand longâterm goals, including support for growth through acquisitions and partnerships. Foster a dataâdriven culture by elevating decisionâmaking and delivering bestâinâclass data products that meet high performance and reliability standards. Enable and advocate for AI/MLâdriven products and features by building scalable machine learning infrastructure for production environments and identifying opportunities for data science and analytics applications. Oversee Data Science, Data Analytics, Data Engineering, and Data Platform teams in a fastâpaced, missionâfocused environment. Guide the evolution of data systems, tools, and architecture, including data consolidation, governance frameworks, and unified data models across multiple entities. Ensure strong communication and partnership between data teams and their internal stakeholders, emphasizing responsiveness during highâstakes periods. WHAT YOU BRING 8+ years of experience managing and leading Data teams 2+ years leading Data organizations of 20+ people Expertise in applying data science to strategic and operational decisionâmaking Strong background in statistics and quantitative analysis Expertise in data security and compliance Familiarity with Data Engineering, Data Platforms, and highâperformance big data tooling Track record of driving technical excellence and elevating engineering teams Effective crossâfunctional collaborator able to navigate ambiguity and joint initiatives Strong stakeholder orientation, especially during complex or timeâsensitive scenarios Ability to align multiple stakeholders and organizational structures Experience leading data integration efforts through M&A, including centralized data lakes, harmonized models, and governance frameworks Background in sectorâspecific technology or missionâdriven environments Experience in payments, B2B platforms, or twoâsided marketplaces Experience with analytics and reporting Previous work integrating data systems across organizations or M&A Familiarity with Redshift, AWS, dbt, Looker, Fivetran Experience working in or navigating laborâorganized environments Product management experience related to data products Experience establishing data governance standards, SLAs, and operational excellence practices Salary Range: $213,918 - $242,511 - $290,000 Final offers consider experience, performance, and team compensation alignment.
