Location: Multi-Market (Chicago, Nashville, and Pittsburgh) Salary: 150K annually + up to 50% bonus Role Summary The Director of Construction leads Who Brew’s construction organization and oversees the full lifecycle of all new stand builds across our markets. This role is responsible for delivering 50+ construction projects annually while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to Who Brew standards. The Director of Construction leads and develops a growing team of Assistant Project Managers, Site Supervisors, and Construction Coordinators, providing the leadership, structure, and operational clarity needed to support rapid expansion.
This role ensures the construction organization operates efficiently across multiple markets by establishing strong processes, maintaining clear communication, and proactively solving challenges as they arise. Construction Leadership & Team Development • Lead and manage the construction team including Assistant Project Managers, Site Supervisors, and Construction Coordinators. • Establish clear roles, accountability, and performance expectations across the construction organization. • Mentor and develop team members to build strong project leadership capabilities. • Ensure consistency in how projects are managed and executed across all markets. • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, responsiveness, and collaboration. • Provide regular feedback and conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports. Project Portfolio Oversight • Oversee a team delivering the full construction lifecycle for 50+ new projects annually across multiple markets. • Ensure the team delivers projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with Who Brew brand standards. • Maintain visibility across all active projects, identifying risks and resolving challenges early. • Provide leadership and decision-making support to project teams navigating field issues or schedule constraints.
Process Development & Operational Excellence • Develop and implement scalable construction processes to support rapid company growth. • Standardize project management tools, reporting structures, documentation, and communication workflows. • Improve construction timelines, project costs, and overall project efficiency. • Implement best practices for managing modular, ground up, and remodel projects and site development coordination. Cross-Functional Collaboration • Partner closely with Entitlements, Real Estate, Operations, and Finance teams to ensure alignment across project timelines and priorities. • Ensure seamless transitions from site acquisition and entitlement through construction and store opening. • Collaborate with internal leadership to support market expansion strategies and development pipelines. Budget & Financial Oversight • Oversee construction budgets across all projects. • Review project financials, change orders, and cost forecasts. • Ensure strong cost discipline and transparency across the project pipeline.
Contractor & Vendor Management • Lead the selection process for contractors, subcontractors, and key vendors and maintain strong relationships with these partners. • Establish clear expectations for quality, schedule adherence, and professionalism across the contractor network. • Initiate the bid process and award final bids. Communication & Reporting • Provide clear and consistent project updates to executive leadership. • Maintain visibility into project schedules, risk areas, and development pipeline timelines. • Communicate proactively across internal teams to ensure alignment on openings and construction progress. • Triage and resolve issues escalated by the construction team and serve as the final source of resolution. • Escalate strategic concerns to the VP of Construction and Entitlement. Culture & Brand Representation • Lead with integrity, accountability, and professionalism. • Represent Who Brew with municipalities, contractors, vendors, and development partners. • Foster a team culture that reflects Who Brew’s values and commitment to excellence.
Required Skills & Qualifications • 10+ years of construction leadership experience, including managing multi-site or high-volume development programs. • Strong experience in retail, restaurant, modular construction, or multi-unit development preferred. • Proven ability to lead and develop construction teams across multiple markets. • Strong people leadership and HR management skills. • Deep understanding of site development, ground-up construction, and project management processes. • Exceptional communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. • Ability to manage complex project pipelines in fast-paced growth environments. • Strong vendor and contractor management experience. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and construction management or scheduling software. • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred. Physical & Work Requirements • Ability to travel as needed to project sites across markets. • Ability to walk job sites and stand for extended periods. • Exposure to active construction environments and outdoor conditions. Supervisory Responsibilities • Directly oversees Assistant Project Managers, Site Supervisors, and Construction Coordinators. • Responsible for team performance, development, and organizational structure within the construction department. • Ensures consistent standards and execution across all Who Brew construction projects.
