What is The Role? We are looking for a Director of Customer Engineering, ideally located in the Eastern time zone of the United States, to steer the direction of our customer architect team across multiple territories. The role blends people‑focused, business‑driven, and technically savvy leadership.
You will directly lead all aspects of a high‑performing team of Customer Architects, bringing a deep understanding of our technical solutions to empathize with your team’s challenges and derive strategic solutions. The Director of Customer Engineering represents Elastic at the forefront of our offerings. Because our solutions are intrinsically technical, the Director must be proficient in the intricacies of our solutions, communicate their value effectively, and drive consumption.
This position requires frequent face‑to‑face engagements, strong presentation skills, and approximately 25% travel to promote and align our Elastic solutions across the Americas. What You Will Be Doing? Lead and mentor Customer Architects, fostering collaboration, innovation, and a customer‑centric culture.
Serve as the technical pillar of leadership, ensuring regional strategies align with the technical nuances of our solutions; a background in sales‑engineering leadership is beneficial. Employ urgent and strategic approaches to address critical situations, establishing scalable processes that reveal value and stimulate consumption. Leverage expertise in distributed datastores and areas such as observability, cybersecurity, or search to deepen the team’s market understanding; experience in Vectors, Machine Learning, or GenAI is an added advantage.
Collaborate with regional sales leaders, account teams, and stakeholders to ensure seamless communication and alignment of objectives. What You Bring? Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field is highly preferred.
Proven experience leading teams centered on consumption. Technical expertise in distributed datastores and in areas such as observability, cybersecurity, or search; familiarity with Elastic solutions is a significant advantage. Experience or familiarity with Vectors, Machine Learning, and GenAI.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a varied audience. Ability to balance urgency with strategic planning, keeping teams aligned with company and customer objectives. Compensation Compensation includes a base salary and a variable component that together comprise the On‑Target Earnings (OTE). OTE is a 70/30 pay mix (base salary / target variable). The typical starting ranges are: Base salary: $161,300 – $255,100 USD.
Target variable: $69,000 – $109,200 USD. On‑Target Earnings (OTE): $230,300 – $364,300 USD. Base salary and variable components may be adjusted based on factors such as qualifications, experience, location, and performance.
