Digital Communications Specialist (Self-Employed Contract, Part-time) 

Position Type: Free-lance/Self-Employed Contract, Part-Time (10–20 hours/week)

Reports To: Executive Director

Location: Remote within Canada

Start Date: As soon as possible.

 

About Agriculture in the Classroom Canada:

Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC-C) is a national charitable organization on a 

mission to cultivate meaningful connections to agriculture and food. We are seeking a 

creative, organized, and tech-savvy communicator to join our team as a Digital 

Communications Specialist. If you’re passionate about education, design, and digital 

storytelling—and you want to help Canadian students understand where their food comes 

from—this role is for you.

 

Position Overview: 

The Digital Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and delivering accessible 

and engaging digital learning experiences and communications across AITC-C’s programs 

and platforms. You will work closely with both internal teams and Agriculture in the Classroom 

Canada members to design compelling content, manage social media channels, maintain 

our website, and bring our national initiatives to life in digital spaces.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, deliver, and support digital learning experiences and multimedia content (e.g., 

podcasts, YouTube events, online courses, resources, videos, audio, interactive media) 

for youth and adults across Canada.

• Design, produce and edit strategic marketing materials, including annual reports, 

resource guides, and digital publications.

• Manage social media content planning, publishing, and engagement. 

• Ensure consistent, high-quality application of AITC-C’s brand and messaging.

• Maintain and update all AITC-C’s websites (e.g., thinkAG, AITC Dashboard, AITC main 

website) with fresh, user-friendly content.

• Monitor performance metrics for digital content across all platforms and channels.

• Supports internal teams with communications and design needs.

• Build relationships with partners, members, and like-minded organizations to expand 

the digital program's reach.

• Ensure all marketing, recognition, and promotional obligations in funder agreements 

are met.


Qualifications: 

• Post-secondary education in communications, graphic design, digital media, or a 

related field.

• Strong creative, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.

• Proficiency in digital tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere 

Pro, etc.), WordPress, Genially, Canva, paid advertisements and social media platforms.

• Experience creating content for education, youth and adult audiences, or nonprofit 

initiatives is an asset.

• Understanding of our interest in agriculture and food systems is a plus.

• Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset. 

 

Work Environment & Expectations:

• This is a self-employed contract position with flexible hours (10–20 hours/week).

• Responsiveness required during core business hours.

• Remote work with reliable internet access.

• Contractor must provide their own equipment and workspace.

• Collaboration with national and provincial teams is required.

• Work must align with AITC-C’s governance, security, and confidentiality standards.
