About the Role

As a Diagnostic Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving complex mechanical, electrical and electronic faults across a wide range of vehicles. You will work closely with the Workshop Controller, Service Advisors, Parts Department and manufacturer technical support to ensure accurate diagnosis, efficient repairs and high-quality workmanship.

You will also provide technical guidance to other technicians and contribute to the continuous improvement of workshop performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, electrical and electronic vehicle faults.
  • Perform advanced fault finding using manufacturer diagnostic equipment and technical information.
  • Diagnose and repair EV and high-voltage (HV) systems in accordance with manufacturer procedures.
  • Liaise with manufacturer technical support to resolve complex cases where required.
  • Complete advanced warranty repairs and technical reports.
  • Support and provide technical guidance to junior technicians and apprentices.
  • Assist the Workshop Controller in improving workshop productivity and repair quality.
  • Conduct road tests where required to verify diagnosis and completed repairs.
  • Ensure all repairs comply with manufacturer specifications, dealership standards and WHS requirements.
  • Maintain accurate repair documentation and technical records.
  • Participate in ongoing manufacturer technical training and certification programs.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as required.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Qualified Automotive Technician / Motor Mechanic (Certificate III or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience in automotive diagnostics within a dealership or workshop environment.
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills across mechanical, electrical and electronic systems.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting and mentoring other technicians.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Current Australian Driver Licence.

Highly Regarded

  • Previous BYD or EV dealership experience.
  • Experience working with hybrid and electric vehicles.
  • High Voltage (HV) qualification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Manufacturer diagnostic certification or Master Technician experience.
  • Ability to communicate in both English and Mandarin is highly regarded, but not essential.
