Now Hiring: Development Services Senior Engineer Are you an experienced civil engineer with a strong background in private development? The City of Milwaukie is seeking a Development Services Senior Engineer to assume advanced technical responsibilities for complex private development reviews. The first review of applications will be on May 25, 2026. What Youโ€™ll Do Private Development Review : Conduct senior-level reviews and approve engineering plans for commercial, industrial, and residential structures proposed through the permit process. Infrastructure Coordination : Evaluate proposed public and private infrastructure improvements associated with development projects (including streets, utilities, and stormwater systems) to ensure strict compliance with City, State, and federal standards.

Project Management : Manage and coordinate the review of development applications, adhering to required timelines, facilitating interdepartmental coordination, permitting processes, and stakeholder communication to ensure compliance with municipal codes, engineering standards, infrastructure requirements, and community development objectives. System Development Charges : Calculate and administer SDCs in compliance with applicable ordinances and state law. Review development applications and plans to determine fees, perform calculations based on project impacts, and ensure accuracy and consistency.

Coordinate with engineering, planning, and finance staff; maintain clear documentation; and advise applicants and internal teams on SDC requirements. Targeted Inspections & Studies : Perform essential field inspections of private development utility connections and review transportation impact studies, illumination plans, and other private development studies. Technical Guidance : Provide expert engineering guidance to developers, contractors, and property owners regarding City standards, engineering requirements, and complex development processes.

Cross-Agency Collaboration : Coordinate engineering reviews seamlessly with planning, building, public works, and other agencies to ensure consistency with adopted development conditions. What You Bring to the Table Education : A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Private Development Experience : At least five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in civil engineering.

This must explicitly include development review, infrastructure design, or municipal engineering, supported by a strong understanding of local land use regulations and engineering standards applicable to private development. Licensing An active Oregon Professional Engineering license (or a Professional Engineer license from another state with the ability to obtain an Oregon license within 6 months of hire). Possess, or obtain by time of hire, a valid driver license and acceptable driving history.

Skills : The ability to analyze complex engineering data, evaluate engineering designs for compliance, and clearly communicate technical requirements to developers, contractors, and the public.
