As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our team, with the level of the role shaped around the experience and capability of the successful candidate.
About the Role:
Working across a diverse range of motorsport and high-performance engineering projects, you’ll develop practical, high-quality engineering solutions from concept through to manufacture.
You’ll work closely with our engineering, project and manufacturing teams, giving you hands-on involvement throughout the full project lifecycle.
For a more experienced candidate, there’s scope to take technical ownership of complex projects, lead design activities and support the development of other engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering:
- Develop engineering solutions from concept through to manufacture.
- Produce high-quality 3D CAD models, assemblies and detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Design components, assemblies and tooling across customer and internal projects.
- Apply sound engineering judgement to materials, tolerances, manufacturing methods and design for manufacture.
- Support prototype development, testing, validation and design reviews.
- Identify and resolve design and manufacturing challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
Project Ownership & Collaboration:
- Take ownership of design activities, managing priorities and delivering work to project requirements and timescales.
- Work closely with Design Engineers, Project Engineers and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers on technical matters where required.
- Communicate progress, priorities and potential issues effectively across the team.
Documentation & Quality:
- Produce and maintain accurate engineering documentation, including drawings, bills of materials and revision records.
- Ensure engineering output meets company design processes, standards and quality requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of designs, engineering processes and ways of working.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Work safely and comply with company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Consider safety, quality and compliance throughout the design and engineering process.
- Maintain a professional and organised working environment.
Senior-Level Responsibilities:
- For a more experienced candidate, the role may also include:
- Taking technical ownership of larger or more complex projects.
- Leading design reviews and providing technical direction.
- Reviewing and checking engineering work and drawings.
- Supporting and mentoring less experienced engineers.
- Helping develop engineering standards and best practice across the team.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Automotive, Motorsport Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional experience in mechanical design engineering.
- Strong 3D CAD capability — Creo preferred, although other packages will be considered.
- Experience producing detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles, tolerancing, materials and manufacturing processes.
- Practical understanding of design for manufacture and assembly.
- Strong engineering problem-solving skills.
- Ability to take ownership, manage priorities and work effectively across engineering and manufacturing teams.
Desirable:
- Motorsport, automotive or high-performance engineering experience.
- Machined or fabricated components and assemblies.
- Composite components and manufacturing processes.
- Jigs, fixtures and tooling.
- Prototype or low-volume manufacture.
- GD&T and tolerance analysis.
- PLM/PDM systems.
