Data Warehouse Modeller

The Data Designer role supports the business by deciding what data should be ingested from source systems into the Enterprise Data Warehouse, and how this data should be transformed to make it suitable for consumption in reporting or other downstream systems.

The role is accountable for analysing and documenting source systems’ data to meet business requirements; determining the method and frequency of data ingestion; defining and documenting data mapping, harmonisation, derivations, calculations, or other transformations; and ensuring that the target data model is coherent and works with other models in the data warehouse.

Responsibilities

  • Design data warehouse solutions driven by business demand.
  • Understand solution requirements, working with the business to clarify them if necessary.
  • Identify and document possible data sources, analyse and profile the data they contain, and work with source systems and business experts to understand how business processes create and update data.
  • Create and maintain logical and physical data models for the data warehouse solutions, working with the Platform Data Architect to ensure alignment with the data roadmap and principles.
  • Create and update source‑to‑target data mappings, define transformations and calculations, capture metadata (attribute definitions, data types, PII classification), and ensure alignment with principles and conventions.
  • Support Data Engineers in implementing the designs.
  • Support Quality Engineers in testing the data warehouse objects.

Required Skills

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A proactive and curious mindset.
  • A collaborative approach to work.
  • 2 years experience working with data in data warehouses or 5 years experience with MI/BI data.
  • Intermediate‑level SQL querying.
  • Experience of data profiling.
  • Knowledge of ETL processes.
  • Understanding of data quality management.
  • Understanding of data lifecycle management.
  • Experience working with data in Databricks.
