Job Description

The Design Approval Organization (DAO) Manager is accountable for leading a team of Avionics and Structural design engineers that implement technical projects relating to aircraft Supplemental Type Certification and aircraft systems integration, ensuring high quality of design activity is conducted in accordance with company and regulatory standards on-time and on budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the DAO project-engineering team, driving efficiency, productivity, and technical excellence within the DAO. Drive project schedules and ensure project engineers are engaged, focused, and remain on task.
  • Manage, prioritize and when required conduct aircraft level design and airworthiness activities as well as all appliance level airworthiness activities.
  • Oversee and contribute to the preparation of all necessary documentation, such as specifications, drawings, functional tests, and reports.
  • Oversee the Project Management of STC’s, TSO’s, and aircraft level airworthiness activities from proposal through certification and post certification support.
  • Ensure all Tier II support for aircraft level activities are coordinated and responses are provided in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical and resource support to other engineering teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to deliver technical solutions on schedule and on budget.
  • Manage project plans, resource loading and scheduling within the DAO.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the Sales team and the DAO as required, ensure Sales and customer expectations are managed.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering best practices and own engineering processes and standards that apply to the DAO.
  • Maintain and continuously improve the DAO's Design Approval Procedures Manual (DAPM) and Airworthiness Control System (ACS), and ensure the organization operates within its approved Scope of Authority.
  • Act as the primary interface with Transport Canada — and with the FAA, EASA, and other authorities as required — managing DAO delegation, audits, and the organization's ongoing regulatory standing.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Engineering Degree from an accredited University (Aerospace, Software, Computer, Electrical or Mechanical).
  • 10+ years of avionics system design, integration and installation experience
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external project teams
  • Demonstrated technical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Must be capable of complete design documentation and assistance in certification efforts
  • Professional Engineer Designation
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project and product lifecycle
  • Current standing or eligibility for Transport Canada delegation under the company Design Approval Organization
