This role focuses on navigating the complexities of Research and Development (R&D) tax credits within the Methods, Credits & Incentives (MCI) practice. The Manager will provide strategic tax advice, supervise R&D projects, and collaborate with leadership to ensure high-quality deliverables while supporting business development initiatives. Locations: Pittsburgh, PA Philadelphia, PA Key Responsibilities: Supervise and lead R&D tax credit projects from inception to completion.
Conduct technical fieldwork, including visiting client locations and touring facilities to investigate relevant facts. nalyze accounting information and prepare cost lead/summary schedules. Perform complex tax computations and draft written reports summarizing findings and technical positions. Manage multiple engagements simultaneously, ensuring all projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Research complex federal and state tax issues, specifically regarding R&D rules and relevant court cases. Support business development by identifying opportunities and assisting in the creation of client proposals. Oversee the preparation and amendment of federal and state tax returns.
Maintain firm standards and provide mentorship and support to junior team members. Technical Skills: Tax Expertise : Deep understanding of federal and state R&D tax rules, regulations, and relevant case law. Accounting Proficiency : Intermediate understanding of tax return mechanics and experience with amending tax returns.
Niche Knowledge : Specialized experience in R&D tax credits, Fixed Assets, or Tax Accounting Methods. Education : Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Certification : Must possess an active CPA license or a Juris Doctor (JD) with an active attorney's license. (Note: Enrolled Agent (EA) status is not accepted for this role).
Functional & Experience Skills: Industry Experience: 6 to 10 years of experience specifically in R&D tax credits. Public Accounting: Minimum of 4 years of experience in Accounting or Tax within a public accounting or consulting firm. Project Management: Proven experience managing project lifecycles, budgets, and deliverables.
Vertical Exposure: Experience across industries such as Technology, Life Sciences, Manufacturing, Real Estate, Construction, or Hospitality. Behavioral Skills: Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting and client interaction. Time Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Leadership: Ability to support leadership initiatives and foster a collaborative team environment. Adaptability: Willingness to work additional hours as needed and travel to various client sites. Preferred Qualifications: dvanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, Engineering, or Operations Research.
