Job Description
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Position Title Consulting Engineer/Senior Consulting Engineer, Structural Engineering Responsibilities Work on a wide range of structural-engineering projects involving steel, concrete, masonry and wood structures. Focus on seismic assessment/retrofit and repair/rehabilitation/restoration of existing buildings. Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
Execute the construction-administration phase, including bid assistance, submittal review, site meetings and observations of completed work. Serve as a manager on projects such as: Condition assessments of existing buildings Design of repair/rehabilitation/restoration measures and preparation of construction documents Design and detailing of structural components for adaptive reuse and modifications of existing building structures Investigation of structural failures and adverse performance issues Preparation of technical reports Maintain direct client contact within the context of assigned work. Pursue professional activities to gain recognition.
Publish articles/papers and give technical presentations. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural analysis and design of concrete, steel, masonry, and wood-frame structures (Consulting Engineer). Senior roles consider more experience.
MS in Structural Engineering. Professional Engineering license required; Structural Engineering license preferred. Proficient in writing and editing project specifications, technical reports, field reports, correspondence, and proposals.
Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to meet deadlines and manage project budgets. Ability to work in a team environment.
Proficient with computer analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAP, RISA, RAM, SAFE, PERFORM 3D). Ability to travel to remote job sites not accessible by public transportation and, if applicable, an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
