Hays are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing manufacturing business for the appointment of a Company Accountant. This is a newly created position offering the opportunity to take ownership of the finance function, introduce robust financial controls and reporting processes, and play a key role in supporting strategic business growth.

Working closely with senior leadership, this position will suit an experienced finance professional who enjoys improving processes, driving financial performance and providing meaningful management information to support business decision-making.

Your new role
Reporting directly to senior management, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day finance function whilst overseeing transactional finance activities and supporting continuous improvement across the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Financial Reporting & Management Accounts
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, Balance Sheet and supporting analysis.
  • Develop and implement a structured month-end reporting process.
  • Monitor business performance against budgets, forecasts and previous periods.
  • Investigate financial variances and provide recommendations to management.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting and business planning activities.
  • Liaise with external accountants regarding year-end accounts and statutory requirements.
  • Cashflow & Financial Planning
  • Produce weekly, monthly and long-term cashflow forecasts.
  • Monitor cash position and identify potential financial risks.
  • Support initiatives to improve working capital and overall cash performance.
  • Analyse customer receipts, supplier payments and cashflow trends.
  • Provide regular financial insights and recommendations to senior management.
  • Credit Control & Ledger Management
  • VAT, Payroll & Compliance
  • Financial Controls & Process Improvement
  • Review current finance processes and implement best-practice controls.
  • Develop and document finance procedures across the business.
  • Improve reporting, job costing, profitability analysis and financial visibility.
  • Support stock, purchasing and work-in-progress controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through systems and technology.

  • What you'll need to succeed
    Previous experience as a Company Accountant, Finance Manager, QBE Accountant, Bookkeeper or similar finance role.
  • Strong experience preparing monthly management accounts and financial reporting packs.
  • Proven experience in cashflow forecasting, budgeting and financial planning.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing VAT returns, PAYE submissions and payroll information.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations and month-end processes.
  • Experience managing credit control, debtor management and cash collection activities.
  • Strong Excel and accounting systems experience.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to provide meaningful financial insight.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Commercially minded with a proactive approach to improving business performance.

Desirable

  • AAT, IATI, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification.
  • Qualified, part-qualified or qualified by experience candidates considered.
  • Experience within manufacturing, engineering or construction environments.
  • Knowledge of job costing, stock control and WIP reporting.
  • Experience supporting or supervising junior finance staff.
  • Sage experience.
