Role: Site Technician
Location: Northampton
Type: Perm OR Contract
Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 basic pay approx. + overtime on top + company vehicle
Overtime: time and a half, plus £50 per night if staying away

Hours: 9-5pm Monday – Friday. Hours on customer sites may vary based on site operations.
About the role
We are a small company designing, trialling and scaling innovative new technology that transforms the way waste is handled by changing it into a material that can be reused instead of being sent to landfill or incineration. Our ethos is to rethink what waste could become – instead of simply being disposed of, our advanced biotechnology will turn it into an alternative fuel source, creating environmental benefits and reducing the disposal costs for our customers.
We are looking for someone with experience who is passionate about sustainability and keen for a new challenge in the waste sector. The role involves commissioning and optimising our systems to maximise the performance. The role will require reasonable travel and the need to be flexible on work schedule to support business demands.
Main Purpose of Job
To commission and monitor the systems at customer locations to achieve the transformation of waste into an alternative fuel source. Locations mainly Northampton and the wider Midlands.
The role is hands-on and site-based, commissioning systems and ensuring they are operating as expected, and performing simple troubleshooting activities while building knowledge and experience over time.
You will provide day to day support and carry out testing (on site, following protocol), and conduct servicing and troubleshooting with support and guidance from team members
Key responsibilities
- Commission and optimise systems until waste is consistently transformed.
- Support testing and ongoing development work (on customer sites and in the Trowbridge office)
- Train on-site operatives on how to load and empty the system
- Update maintenance and health & safety documents
- Report updates regularly to wider team, including data capture, progress updates, risks and issues.
- Support installation of new systems as required.
About You
This role would suit someone early in their career or looking to move into a field-based role. You will enjoy hands-on work, learning new skills, and working in a customer-facing environment. You’ll be curious and passionate about new technology and working in sustainability. You’ll have a logical system-based mindset with experience of process optimisation.

You will work as part of a small Operations team and collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and technical specialists.

Key Skills and Experience:
- 2-3 years’ experience in a hands-on or technical role ideally operating machinery as part of a process (e.g. engineering, electronic/mechanical/systems or similar)
- Willingness to learn and develop technical skills on the job
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems
- Ability to follow processes and work under guidance
- Good attention to detail and problem-solving approach
- Strong communication skills, particularly when working on customer sites
- Comfortable completing reports and recording information accurately
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel and stay away from home as required
What you’ll actually be doing
- Using testing equipment and a tablet to monitor the performance of the systems
- Testing waste samples on site (following protocol) to monitor performance
- Reporting performance metrics to wider operational team and working with the team to identify and implement optimisation settings changes
- Carry out basic mechanical repairs - with support as required
- Simple troubleshooting – assessing issues and identifying faults
- Working with the customer to make sure the system is operated effectively at all times
- Advocating the company when on site / at all times
- Being the eyes and ears of the company while on site
- If required, staying away by the customer’s site – typically the same site for a period of time.
To be successful you will also be expected to:
- Assist in planning and preparing your work schedule
- Ensure all work is properly documented and reported
- Prepare for site activities, including gathering necessary tools and information
- Use tools and equipment safely and responsibly
- Follow health & safety protocol at all times
- Ask for support as required
What a day may look like:
- Arrive on site and ensure the client is using the system correctly
- Monitor its input and output levels against targets
- Check vapour sensors and performance on the tablet
- Check the system chambers and take thermal readings
- Collect samples and test them (a 24hr process)
- Create reports to circulate to wider team
- Identify any issues with system performance and identify potential causes
- Conduct simple troubleshooting repairs – with support as required.
- Ensure all bolts and screws are intact
- Keep customer informed about any changes made to the system
- Work with third party suppliers and contractors when required
