What this job involves The Chief Engineer, under the oversight of the Director of Operations, Deputy Director of Operations, and Account Director, oversees the efficient, safe, and responsible operation of all building systems and equipment while leading the second-shift engineering team at Rush University Medical Center.
You will manage a diverse team currently comprised of 2 HVAC technicians, 3 plumbers, 3 electricians, and 2 building maintenance workers. This role requires technical expertise in multiple craft areas (electrical, HVAC, plumbing) and the ability to mentor and support the team. This position requires the Chief Engineer to be on-site.
This is a Local 399 Union position. Responsibilities Oversee the maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems Supervise and manage engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and personal development Coordinate with first-shift and third-shift engineering teams to ensure smooth handoff of in-progress work Perform preventive maintenance tasks and provide hands-on support Develop and routinely update a documented maintenance plan (preventive, predictive, reactive) Participate in client-facing and property team communications Communicate issues affecting the campus effectively to management and the client Lead and manage the engineering budget and participate in the operating budget process Assist in the development of a capital improvement plan Schedule, supervise, and direct contractors; monitor performance; respond to emergencies and service calls Lead and organize ongoing technical, safety, and operational training programs Conduct regular rounding, adhering to regulatory compliance Manage CMMS and BAS systems Foster collaboration between trades and shifts to deliver quality outcomes Conduct risk assessment and mitigation Perform other duties as requested by management and/or client Qualifications Valid Stationary Engineers License in the City of Chicago 7+ years of related experience, especially as a Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or similar role People management experience (leading a team) Universal CFC EPA certification Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams) Ability to lift up to 50 lbs Comfort using ladders up to 30 feet tall Ability to frequently climb, bend, kneel, lift, and/or drive Strong customer service and communication skills Lead and demonstrate a safety-first culture Preferred Qualifications Trade school education Union training Military service College education Benefits and Equal Opportunity What’s in it for you: Join an industry leader and shape the future of commercial real estate Deep investment in cutting-edge technology to power your work Comprehensive and competitive benefits plan A supportive, caring, and diverse work environment designed for your growth and well-being JLL is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity and inclusion. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
