Job Description
In conjunction with the rest of the team, the role of Bookkeeper/Accounting Manager is critical for ensuring the Company complies with all accounting practices outlined by the Accounting Standards Board (AcSB). The responsibility includes assisting in planning, implementing and running finance activities of the Company, including business planning, banking, insurance, accounting, and administration.
Accountabilities / Direct
- Assisting in all relations with external accountants and The Canada Revenue Agency including the Income Tax, HST and Payroll tax accounts.
- Assisting with key financial relationships including with banks, insurers, accounting software & systems providers, and landlord(s).
- Responsible for overseeing all direct reports progress in the role
- Preparation of weekly/ monthly P&L reports.
- Weekly inventory reports performed from weekly cycle count responsibilities include: balancing purchases and sales against inventory while working with Senior staff and production planner to allocated costing.
- Performing monthly and annual accounting cycle including accruals and adjustments to provide timely financial knowledge to the Senior Leadership Team.
- Responsible for the completion of all journal entries, account and bank reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness. Assists with interim and year-end financial audits along with other audits as required.
- Liable for financial reporting including but not limited to daily cash position, weekly cash movement, daily wire transfer detail, etc.
- Completes Statistics Canada surveys as required.
- Prepares balance sheet reconciliations ensuring financial statement accuracy.
- Prepare and calculate HST remittances in compliance with Canada Revenue Agency requirements.
- Monitor financial controls for the Company and related entities and to pro-actively recommend improvements to these controls.
- Ad hoc financial analysis of proposed investments and projects.
- Excellent customer service to the Senior Leadership Team, staff, and agents/customers.
- Liaises with regulatory authorities.
- Performs any other relevant duties and responsibilities defined in company policies and procedures, applicable legislations, etc.
- Works in compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other relevant governmental legislation.
Required Skills / Experience & Abilities
- Solid financial & accounting skills, and knowledge gained through education and experience.
- 5+ years of relevant experience working as a Bookkeeper or Accountant.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and auditing standards and the ability to apply them to revenue and expense recording, reporting and analysis.
- Strong computer skills including knowledge of and experience with computerized financial information systems. Experience with Quick Books is suggested as this is our current system.
- Analytical skills to compile and analyze data from a variety of sources and prepare reports, summaries and recommendations for management.
- Excellent communication, customer service, organizational and analytical/problem solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm while handling multiple and competing priorities under time pressure.
- Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team.
