Job Description Job Description Job Description: Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Location: Florida (specific school / district to be confirmed upon application) Organization: Private School Job Type: Full-Time / Contract Job Summary The Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides behavior-analytic assessment, intervention planning, staff training, and clinical oversight for students in a school setting. This role supports students with behavioral, social, emotional, communication, and adaptive needs by conducting assessments, developing behavior intervention plans, supervising behavior technicians or support staff when applicable, and collaborating with teachers, administrators, families, and multidisciplinary teams. BCBA certification standards are set by the BACB, and Florida school-based ABA services may also intersect with Medicaid and education requirements depending on the student’s funding source and service model. (Behavior Analyst Certification Board) Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs), behavior observations, record reviews, interviews, and other behavior-analytic assessments.
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and skill-acquisition programs. Provide consultation and support to teachers, paraprofessionals, school staff, and families regarding behavior strategies and student support. Analyze behavioral data and adjust interventions based on student response and progress.
Train and supervise RBTs, paraprofessionals, and other designated staff in the implementation of behavior plans and evidence-based strategies. Participate in IEP, MTSS, problem-solving, and student support team meetings. Support crisis prevention, de-escalation planning, and reintegration strategies using approved school and district procedures.
Maintain timely, accurate documentation, progress notes, reports, and service records. Promote compliance with ethical, professional, and confidentiality standards. Collaborate with school psychologists, counselors, ESE staff, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and administrators to support student success.
School districts in Florida commonly use BCBAs in these collaborative school-based functions. (Florida Department of Education) School-Based Responsibilities Support students across school environments, including classrooms, common areas, buses, cafeterias, and playgrounds. Assist schools in implementing positive behavior supports that improve access to instruction and participation in the least restrictive environment. Develop behavior support recommendations aligned with IEPs, FBAs, and district procedures.
Monitor fidelity of behavior plan implementation and provide feedback to instructional staff. Help create systems and staff support for students with challenging behavior, autism, developmental disabilities, and related needs. Provide behavior-related consultation for threat assessment, school mental health, or intensive student support teams when assigned by the district or school.
Florida district documents show BCBAs are used in these kinds of school-based support structures. (Florida Department of Education) Florida-Specific Requirements Current BCBA certification in good standing with the BACB. Master’s degree in behavior analysis, education, psychology, or a related field, consistent with BCBA eligibility requirements. Meet all school district employment requirements, including background screening and any applicable fingerprinting or campus clearance requirements.
When services are provided under Florida Medicaid in a school setting, ensure documentation and service delivery comply with Florida Medicaid behavior analysis coverage policy. Florida Medicaid states that school-based authorization requests must include the student’s IEP, or if unavailable or not inclusive of BA services, alternate justification and expected timing for an IEP or 504 update. (Florida AHCA) Minimum Qualifications Active BCBA certification. Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum 2 years of experience working with children or adolescents in educational, clinical, or community settings. Experience conducting FBAs and writing BIPs. Knowledge of ABA principles, data collection, behavior reduction, skill acquisition, and staff training.
Ability to supervise RBTs and other support personnel consistent with BACB requirements. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively with students, school teams, and families.
The BACB’s current handbook remains the primary source for BCBA certification and maintenance requirements. Experience with autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, emotional/behavioral disabilities, and developmental disabilities. Familiarity with IEP teams, MTSS, ESE services, and classroom-based consultation.
Experience training teachers, paraprofessionals, and RBTs in school settings. Bilingual English/Spanish skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of applied behavior analysis and evidence-based school behavioral supports.
Ability to interpret behavioral data and translate findings into practical classroom recommendations. Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with families and staff. Ability to manage multiple campuses, cases, or consultation demands, if assigned.
Ability to maintain confidentiality consistent with school policy and applicable student privacy requirements. Ability to respond calmly and appropriately in crisis or high-intensity behavioral situations. Physical Requirements Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout campus environments.
Ability to observe students in classrooms and other school settings for extended periods. Ability to implement or coach approved crisis-response procedures as required by training and district policy. Ability to lift up to (25–50) pounds, if needed.
Work Environment Public school, charter school, private school, or district-based educational setting. Work may take place across multiple classrooms or campuses. Schedule generally follows the school calendar, with occasional meetings, trainings, or after-school responsibilities.
