Job Description
Manages the day-to-day operations of the department and oversees the sales and execution of work. Ensures all department staff are on task and producing quality work. Works to expand the department, growing the customer base and broadening product options.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES Resourcing the department and staff Manages the hiring, training, supervision and performance evaluation of department staff. Pays particular attention to the job skills and integration of new recruits. Ensures all department staff receive the oversight, training and development they require for them and the department to be successful.
Deals with emerging concerns, problem solving and troubleshooting technical, project and customer related matters referred by others. Mentors others through the process. Ensures department staff and resources remain current with leading service trends, practices and technology.
Evaluates components and processes on an on-going basis. Customer Relations and Sales Develops and maintains a department culture of outstanding customer service. Assists in initiating and developing new customer relationships.
Builds current customer relationships to ensure longāterm viability. Assists the C&E department in providing input and oversight into quotation budgets by determining cost options, building the budget, and ensuring customer followāup after submission. Maintains contact with customers throughout projects, addressing issues and emergencies, responding to requests, ensuring satisfaction.
Listens to customers with an ear for opportunities to offer new or improved products or services, or to build in further efficiencies and cost effectiveness. Ensures timely and successful completion of projects. Administration and Finance Monitors department and project budgets as well as the department overhead, assessing actual versus projected, and adjusting resource allocations and other mechanisms as required.
Prepares the annual department operational plan and budget, determining reasonable projections based on revenue and anticipated business stream. Negotiates agreement on the budget with Senior Management and the General Manager. Oversees and is responsible for the departmentās financial reporting processes and viability Coordinates project activities, assesses productivity and profitability, and plans for continuous improvement and growth.
Inter Departmental Communications Builds and maintains collaborative working relations with TPS managers to ensure coordination across departments where required to meet internal and external project deliverables. Shares information and resources as appropriate. Addresses problems at the managerial level, consulting with others to identify and implement appropriate solutions with impact beyond the department.
Encourages collaboration across projects, sets the tone, helps staff integrate and work effectively together. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE The position requires a technically relevant postāsecondary education and a minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience including some supervisory or managerial experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
ACCOUNTABILITIES Productivity, overhead, GM% and revenue numbers meet expectations as set forth by the budget. Work in progress is tracked and adjusted to manage budgeted versus actual time and other costs. The quality of technical work and deliverables always exceeds all standards.
Customer feedback is positive and/or candid, indicating the trust characteristic of longāterm relationships. Repeat business and referrals from current customers are common occurrences. A balance exists between available technology and customer requirements, building in cost and integration considerations.
Strong ties exist with all TPS managers and leaders in support of collaborative relationships and initiatives. Department staff are carefully selected and properly integrated into the team. Staff willingly take on the work and their deliverables meet expectations.
Staff needs are met, including consideration of family and personal requests balanced with operational requirements. A steady path forward, defined by professional and department growth, is in place and broadly communicated. Is aligned with and communicates the organizationās mission, vision and core values.

Evaluates the effectiveness of practices and procedures used to optimize workforce effort and to ensure continuous reliable operations in support of TPS business objectives. JOB SCOPE The incumbent is a technical professional with central responsibility for the business growth of services.
Provides leadership to the department with core accountabilities for business results, the quality of technical deliverables, customer relations, and staff productivity and development. Possesses an understanding and knowledge of how departmental operations fit into those of other units, and develops strong relationships/networks with other managers and leaders within TPS to achieve internal and external objectives. Holds logistical and supervisory responsibility for departmental resources (human, financial, physical).
Drives the departmentās successful operations by working through others. Provides leadership and advice, and influences the course for the department by developing and implementing plans, policies and services. Recruits and develops department staff, with particular attention to direct reports who are accountable for developing others.
Draws on the expertise of others and consults as appropriate. Makes final decisions on recommendations from others and is accountable for subsequent results. Handles all disciplinary matters within the department up to and including termination.
Exercises good judgement regarding when to inform and/or consult with senior leaders on matters of significance. EFFORT The work is high volume and complex, and departmentāwide decisions ranging from the mundane to the critical are required on a routine basis. Reviews own and othersā work and provides problemāsolving guidance.
Concentration is required for planning and dealing with multiple projects with competing priorities. The incumbent routinely addresses internal and external complexities impeding the delivery of service. Deals with emerging and unpredictable events in a timeāsensitive and timely manner.
Difficult decisions are expected. Mental stress may vary depending on the complexity of assignments and conflicting priorities related to problem solving. Must meet deadlines imposed by internal and external requirements.
The incumbent delegates supervisory or oversight authority and ensures its appropriate use by providing feedback and guidance as required. Ensures the support, supervision, evaluation and development of direct reports and of all department staff as appropriate. Implements effective programs to recruit, retain, train and motivate staff.
Ensures performance reviews are conducted for all department staff according to established timelines and procedures. WORKING CONDITIONS The incumbent works in an office environment. Makes site visits as required. #J-18808-Ljbffr
