Job Description
Our client is a family owned distribution business with close to 100 years of history behind them! Due to a retirement they are seeking a \"hands on\" Assistant Controller to act as the right hand to the Controller and eventually take on that role. The company prides itself on having a number of long term employees who feel a part of the family.
You will be involved in daily accounting workflows, month-end responsibilities, regulatory reporting, audits, and strategic financial projects that support our next phase of growth. This is a role for someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves, collaborating closely with operations, and improving processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Controller, external accountants, and internal teams across Finance, Purchasing, Customer Service, Warehouse/Delivery, and Sales
- Support daily bank reconciliations and EFT verifications
- Assist with monthly filings including HST, WSIB, and other compliance-related submissions
- Prepare journal entries and support monthly account reconciliations
- Maintain rebate codes and payment structures within our enterprise system (STORIS)
- Manage payroll and assist with benefits administration
- Serve as backup for Accounts Payable, including cheque processing
- Support fixed asset tracking and depreciation entries
- Ideally you have at least 5+ years experience at the Manager level with a business that involves inventory
- CPA is an asset
