Job Description

Niche Sporting Goods & Apparel Brand | An Australian Icon in its Market

Full-time | Hybrid | South East Suburbs, Melbourne

$90,000 - $100,000 package

Our client is a proudly Australian, market leading retail and wholesale business with a loyal customer base and a growing store and e-commerce network in the sporting goods and apparel space. As the finance team continues to grow alongside the business, they're looking for an Assistant Accountant to support the day-to-day financial operations of a busy, multi-channel retail environment.

This is a great opportunity for an early-career accountant who wants genuine exposure to retail โ€” working closely with the Finance Manager, getting involved in month-end, reconciliations, reporting, intercompany and BAS. Build a strong foundation for a career in retail or the broader commercial sector.

The Business

A well-established, Australian-owned brand, this business has a strong retail heritage in niche sporting goods and apparel and a developing international wholesale and distribution network. With a significant national store footprint, a growing DTC/e-commerce presence and a passionate customer community, our client is built on quality, performance and expertise.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Assistant Accountant will support month-end processes, reconciliations, reporting, BAS and ad hoc tasks across the business, with particular exposure to group and wholesale.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Assisting with month-end close, including journal entries and accruals
  • Preparing balance sheet reconciliations, including bank, inventory and accruals
  • Supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  • Assisting with statutory reporting, audit preparation and compliance requirements
  • Preparing BAS and other routine tax and compliance submissions
  • Ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support the wider finance team
  • Contributing to process improvement and reporting automation initiatives

What You'll Bring

  • Qualified or working towards CA/CPA (or equivalent), with a relevant degree in Accounting, Commerce or Finance
  • 2 plus years experience in an accounting or finance role, ideally within retail, FMCG or consumer goods but open to a first move from audit
  • Strong Excel skills and comfort working with ERP/accounting systems
  • Good attention to detail and a genuine interest in retail/wholesale
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-first approach
  • Full working rights - PR or Citizen

Why Look At This One

  • Genuine hands-on exposure for a growing, leading Australian brand
  • Work closely with and learn from an experienced Finance Manager
  • Clear pathway to grow into a more senior role
  • Hybrid/flexible working arrangements available after 6 months
