Assistant Accountant

Job DescriptionWe are partnering with a well-established and growing construction and civil engineering contractor to recruit an experienced Assistant Accountant for their team in Cavan. This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful, multi-site business where you'll play a key role in managing the day-to-day finance function within a fast-paced and supportive environment. Due to continued growth, our client is looking for a detail-oriented finance professional with strong accounting experience who enjoys working as part of a close-knit team and thrives in a busy environment.

Key Responsibilities: Process supplier invoices and credit notes accurately and efficiently. Reconcile supplier statements on a monthly basis. Monitor and maintain the debtors ledger.

Prepare weekly payment schedules and process bank payments. Complete regular bank reconciliations. Prepare and submit statutory returns, including VAT, PAYE and RCT through ROS.

Manage the finance inbox, ensuring all documentation is processed promptly and supplier queries are resolved efficiently. Process weekly and monthly payroll. Manage employee timesheets and expense claims.

Provide general administrative support to the finance team as required. Skills and Experience: 25 years' experience in a similar bookkeeping or accounts role. Strong accounts payable and purchase ledger experience within a high-volume environment.

Working knowledge of accounts payable, payroll and banking procedures. A good understanding of VAT and RCT. Experience using QuickBooks or a similar accounting software package.

Excellent organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. The ability to prioritise workloads and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a small team.

Experience within the construction industry would be an advantage but is not essential. What's on Offer: Competitive salary dependent on experience. Flexible working hours.
