The Japanese School of Melbourne is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher to join an exciting new educational initiative that combines Immersion Education and After School Activities.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children, has expertise in Visual Arts, Music and/or Physical Education, and would like to contribute to an innovative learning environment where students develop confidence through English and hands-on learning experiences.

Immersion Education & After School Teacher
1 Year Fixed Term | Monday to Friday

AUD $62,000 – $72,000 per annum + Superannuation

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, teaching experience and relevant skills.

About the Role

Immersion Education

You will teach one or more of the following specialist subjects as part of our English Immersion Program:

Visual Arts

Music

Physical Education

Classes are conducted in English.

Initially, you will work alongside an experienced teacher as a T2 (Team Teacher), developing your understanding of our immersion program and teaching approach.

As you gain experience, you will have the opportunity to progress to a T1 (Lead Teacher) role.

After School Activities

Following the school day, you will plan and deliver engaging activities that make use of your own interests and areas of expertise.

Art and Craft

Music

Sports

Creative Workshops

Other educational or recreational activities that inspire children

From 4:15 pm to 5:30 pm, you will supervise students attending the After School Care Program. There may also be times when care is required until 6:00 p.m.

Working Hours

Monday to Friday

Basic daily schedule includes:

Approximately 30 minutes prior to lessons for lesson preparation and planning with the T1 teacher.

Immersion Education: 1:25 pm – 3:10 pm

After School Activity Program: 3:30 pm – 4:15 pm

Student Supervision: 4:15 pm – 5:30 pm

Occasionally, there may be a requirement to stay until 6:00 pm to support student supervision needs.

Selection Criteria

We welcome applications from candidates who:

Have knowledge, skills or experience in Visual Arts, Music and/or Physical Education.

Have an interest in English Immersion Education.

Work well as part of a collaborative teaching team.

Are enthusiastic about developing new educational programs.

Teaching qualifications are essential for this position.

While previous classroom teaching experience and Immersion Education experience are highly valued, they are not essential. We welcome applications from qualified teachers who are at the beginning of their teaching career, as well as experienced teachers who are interested in developing their skills in a new educational environment.

Successful applicants will initially work as a T2 (Team Teacher) alongside an experienced T1 teacher and receive guidance and support as they develop confidence in delivering Immersion Education. Over time, there will be opportunities to progress into a T1 (Lead Teacher) role.

We are looking for teachers who bring creativity, enthusiasm and a genuine commitment to supporting children's learning, wellbeing and personal growth.

Fixed Term Contract

Monday to Friday (approximately 25 hours per week)

Proposed commencement date: 5 October 2026

Subject to the success of this new project, there may be opportunities for ongoing part-time employment in the future.
