Application Engineer
Metric Bio
Job Description
Metric Bio has partnered with a pioneering neurotechnology company developing a first-of-its-kind bioinspired neural implant designed to mimic the soft tissues of the brain. Their technology provides unparalleled access to neural code, combining ultra-high electrode density with a minimally invasive surgical approach to enable long-term, stable communication with any brain region at single-neuron resolution. They are building their core engineering team and this is one of the most important hires they will make.
We are looking for an Application Software Engineer on behalf of our partner to own the software application layer that processes and interprets real-time neural signals from the implant. You'll sit between the firmware team handling hardware interaction and the data science team developing the neural decoding algorithms, building the real-time application infrastructure that ingests, processes, and streams live neural data reliably and at the performance levels this technology demands. This is a foundational hire.
What you build is what makes the neural data meaningful. You must have: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience Hands-on experience building and deploying applications on embedded Linux or resource-constrained operating systems Strong proficiency in C and C++ Proven experience with real-time data ingestion, processing, and streaming pipelines where latency and reliability are critical Solid understanding of file system management and application performance optimisation on lightweight operating systems A background in a regulated or safety-critical industry such as medical devices, aerospace, defence, robotics, or industrial automation A rigorous approach to software quality, testing, and documentation Nice to have: Experience with IEC 62304 medical device software lifecycle standards Familiarity with Class II or Class III medical device development Background in neuroscience, neural signal processing, or brain-computer interfaces Experience with bidirectional neural interfaces or implantable device software Python proficiency for tooling and scripting alongside C/C++ Experience at an early-stage company owning a domain end to end #J-18808-Ljbffr
