Our client seeks a highly motivated Applications Engineer to join their pioneering team based in Sheffield. Responsibilities: Supporting customers with technical queries related to advanced APD detector products Collaborating with Sales, Field Applications Engineers (FAEs), and Engineering to provide expert product support Leading customer engagement during new product introductions and design-in activities Conducting lab experiments and product evaluations to support applications development Developing technical documentation including application notes, training materials, and reference designs Managing the delivery and support of evaluation kits and reference design boards Attending trade shows and visiting customers to provide technical support and demonstrations Acting as a technical expert across the company's product range and contributing to product roadmap development Requirements: A degree (BSc/BEng/MSc/PhD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Optoelectronics, or Physics 5+ years of experience in Photonics, Semiconductor, or Data/Telecommunications sectors Proven experience in applications, evaluation, or design engineering within detectors, optical components, or communication systems Strong understanding of analogue and mixed-signal semiconductor products and optical sensing technologies Practical experience with optical receiver systems including APDs, photodiodes, laser range finding, LiDAR, or high-speed optical communications Familiarity with circuit simulation, data visualization tools, and MS Office Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-first mindset Organized, problem-solving approach with ability to work across cross-functional teams This is a rare opportunity to join one of the UK’s most exciting and well-funded technology scale-ups, offering a competitive salary and benefits package.
