Aerodynamics Engineer
Kalam Labs
Job Description
About the Company Kalam Labs is building Autonomous Space Planes for Indian Military. Our vehicles have consistently performed at 100,000 ft in close to supersonic speeds across varied terrains. About the Role We are hiring a Supersonic Aerodynamics Engineer to own aerodynamic design and development across our vehicle programmes.
This is a hands-on builder's role, you will design, analyse, test, and iterate on real airframes and control surfaces, not just simulate. Responsibilities External aerodynamic design of vehicle configurations for Mach 2.5 cruise at 18 km altitude Aerodynamic shape optimisation: fuselage, wings, control surfaces, and inlet/nozzle integration Stability and control analysis across the full flight envelope (subsonic, transonic, supersonic) CFD simulation (Ansys Fluent / OpenFOAM / SU2) for external flow, shock structure, and aero-thermal loads Boundary layer, shock-boundary layer interaction, and base flow characterisation Wind tunnel test campaign planning, model design, instrumentation, and post-test correlation Aerodynamic load prediction for structural and control system sizing Trajectory and performance analysis in coordination with GNC and propulsion teams\ Pay range and compensation package CTC: โน18 โ โน30 LPA Company-provided accommodation and living amenities ESOP participation Work directly on classified national defence programmes Qualifications B.Tech / M.Tech / PhD in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering or similar field of engineering Required Skills Strong foundation in compressible flow, gas dynamics, and high-speed aerodynamics Proficiency in MATLAB/Python for aerodynamic analysis and at least one CFD solver Working knowledge of stability derivatives, flight mechanics, and 6-DOF analysis Ability to work under classified programme constraints Preferred Skills Prior hands-on experience designing and flight-testing actual high-speed vehicles (sounding rockets, UAVs, missiles, or equivalent) at any scale Wind tunnel testing experience (subsonic, transonic, or supersonic facilities) Familiarity with hypersonic aero-thermodynamics and TPS sizing Background in DRDO, ISRO, HAL, ADA, or defence R&D environment To Apply, send your CV and a brief note on the most technically challenging aerodynamic problem you have solved or vehicle you have designed
