Adult Education Teacher

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Tomoka Correctional Institution in the Education department. This position is for an Adult Basic Education/GED® Instructor responsible for delivery of instruction in Math/Science, Reading-Language Arts and Social Studies through a blended instructional model. The purpose of the Adult Education Teacher is to educate and supervise inmates by delivering instructional programs, maintaining classroom order, assessing student progress, providing counseling, and contributing to the development and administration of the education program.

Job duties include teaching assigned academic subjects to students at a correctional institution/facility. Plan, develop, and conduct classes in assigned subjects, utilizing various teaching techniques to assist student advancement. Supervise inmates in the class, conduct roll calls, counts, and maintain attendance records.

Ensure order and discipline in the classroom, continually evaluate student progress, and administer grades and tests. Counsel and advise individuals on program progress, behavior, or personal concerns. Participate in staff meetings, seminars, and workshops for curriculum changes and professional development, and assist in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.
