Bookkeeper / Tax Preparer
Position Overview
Bonneau Accounting Services is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented, and highly organized Bookkeeper / Tax Preparer to join our team. This position will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, processing payroll, assisting with tax preparation, reconciling accounts, and providing support with various accounting and tax-related tasks.
The ideal candidate will have strong accounting knowledge, excellent attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple deadlines, and a commitment to providing exceptional client service.

Job Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Accounting
- Maintain, review, and correct clients’ books and financial records.
- Record and post journal entries accurately.
- Review and verify bank transactions to ensure they are properly recorded.
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Research and resolve discrepancies in financial records.
- Generate reports for bank reconciliations and other financial analyses.
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting procedures.
- Ensure financial records are organized, accurate, and up to date.
Payroll
- Prepare and process payroll reports.
- Calculate payroll deductions and tax withholdings.
- Assist with payroll tax filings and payments.
- Ensure payroll processing complies with applicable federal, state, and local tax requirements.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and supporting documentation.
Tax Preparation
- Assist with the preparation of individual and business tax returns.
- Organize and review tax documents for completeness and accuracy.
- Enter tax information accurately into UltraTax and other applicable software.
- Review tax returns for missing information, inconsistencies, and potential errors.
- Assist with tax return processing, client communications, and document collection.
- Follow established office procedures and tax preparation checklists.
- Maintain confidentiality of all client tax and financial information.
Sales Tax & Tax Compliance
- Calculate and remit sales tax as assigned.
- Assist with preparation and filing of applicable tax forms and reports.
- Monitor deadlines and ensure required filings and payments are completed timely.
- Assist with researching tax and accounting questions as directed by the CPAs.
Client Service & Office Support
- Communicate professionally with clients by phone, email, and in person.
- Request and follow up on missing client information and documentation.
- Maintain professional and organized client files.
- Protect confidential client information at all times.
- Assist the CPAs and Office Manager with accounting, tax, payroll, and administrative projects as needed.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Work Schedule
Job Type: Full-Time
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break.
Because of the nature of the accounting and tax preparation business, employees are expected to meet established deadlines and maintain flexibility during periods of increased workload, particularly during tax season.
Compensation
Salary: $45,000–$65,000 per year
Salary will be based on experience, qualifications, accounting and tax knowledge, and overall skill level.
