About the job Accountant (Towson, MD) Accountant needed for our education client in Towson. The Accountant will maintain budget and accounting records for Federal and State grants. One year contract position with possible extension.
The non-negotiable pay rate is $28.00 per hour. Essential Duties: Preparesfinancial reports for management, state, and federal oversightagencies. Provides financial reports to Grant Managers and Supervisors.
Preparesfinancial statements, schedules, and footnote disclosures requiredfor external auditors and for inclusion in the Annual ComprehensiveFinancial Report (ACFR). Performs dailybanking and investment activities. Assists thefiscal supervisor with all aspects of accounting, including but notlimited to general fund operating budget, capital projects,enterprise funds, grants, school activity funds, payroll, fixedassets, financial reporting, accruals.
Assists withmaintenance of the chart of accounts. Verifies andreconciles information housed in payroll and financial systems. Coordinatesbilling and collection of funds due from outside agencies.
Prepares,reviews, and approves disbursements, journal entry requests, and cashremittances. Prepares payrolllabor cost corrections for grants and operating accounts Prepares revenueand expenditure projections. Reviewstransactions for compliance with procedures and State financialreporting requirements.
Consults with andassists principals, school-based secretaries, fiscal assistants,office/department heads, and other account managers, with questionsabout accounting procedures and the financial accounting systems. Develops trainingmaterials related to financial accounting issues for principals,school-based secretaries, fiscal assistants, office/department heads,and other account managers. Participates inthe training of principals, school-based secretaries, fiscalassistants, office/department heads, and other account managers,related to financial accounting issues.
Assists Fiscal Supervisor with compliance reviews of federal grant activity. Assists Fiscal Supervisor with investigating audit findings and preparing responsesto audits. Qualifications: Must have at least four years of experience working as an Accountant to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger reporting, budgeting and finance.
Familiarity withCGI ERP System is a must. A Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Must Type at least 40 wpm. Must be able to work from 8:30 am-4:45 pm Monday through Friday with a 45 minute non paid lunch. A hybrid schedule of three days a week on site and two days working from home will be considered after three to six months based on work performance.
