Salary: Depends on Qualifications Location : Main Campus - Portales, NM Job Type: Full time permanent Job Number: 2025-00208 Department: Business Affairs Division: Business Office Opening Date: 01/15/2026 Position Overview Position Summary Under general supervision, exercise accounting control over university accounts. Requirements Duties and Responsibilities: Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of accounting reports and/or reconciliations. Review and approve University expenses and expenditure requests.
Advise the University community of the policies and procedures utilized by the Office of Business Affairs and State and Federal regulations. Respond to business office inquiries from the University community. Assist with the close of the fiscal year.
Ensure that work assignments are completed timely and accurately. Process daily work as assigned Regular and predictable attendance required Perform related duties as assigned Minimum Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration, Public Administration, Computer Information Systems with an emphasis in accounting and a minimum of two years' experience directly related to the duties specified or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of accounting principles, methods, and application Knowledge of computer-based accounting systems and software, including experience with Microsoft Excel.
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports. Ability to balance and reconcile a variety of accounts, financial reports and statements Excellent customer service skills Strong attention to detail and accuracy Effective oral and written communication skills. Working Conditions Physical Demand and Working Conditions: Work is performed during normal work hours, with some evenings and weekends to meet deadlines.
Work is sedentary in nature and at times requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
