Role Description The Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based at FIDA The Design School in Chennai. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations, including recording transactions, maintaining ledgers, and reconciling bank statements.
The Accountant prepares invoices, processes payments and receipts, and supports budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for the institution. Daily tasks include monitoring cash flow, handling payroll-related data, ensuring timely statutory payments, and assisting with internal and external audits. The role also involves ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and local regulations, collaborating with academic and administrative teams, and providing clear financial information to management for decision-making.
Qualifications
- Strong skills in financial accounting and bookkeeping, including ledger maintenance, bank reconciliation, and preparation of financial statements.
- Proficiency with accounting software and tools (e.g., Tally, ERP systems, spreadsheets) and the ability to work with digital financial records.
- Knowledge of budgeting, cost control, and reporting to support institutional planning and performance tracking.
- Understanding of local taxation, statutory compliance, and audit processes relevant to educational institutions or similar organizations.
- Attention to detail, accuracy in data entry, and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally with academic and administrative staff.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of financial and employee information.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field; professional certifications (such as CA Inter, CMA, or equivalent) are an advantage.
- Previous experience in an educational institution or service-focused organization is beneficial but not mandatory.
