This position is open to all qualified CUPE staff throughout Lakeridge Health commencing 15 September 2026 and closing at 11:59 pm on 22 September 2026.

NOTE: There is an expectation that the successful candidate will work on all Ajax Pickering Hospital Medicine or Health Aging program units. This includes 2E, 2W, 4E, 2N, 4E, 4W, or Surgical Units (subject to change if floor locations change)

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to Manager of the LHAP Medicine Float Pool, the successful candidate will be responsible for personal patient care, vital signs, physical assessment, administration of medications, monitoring IV's, monitoring telemetry, setting up medical equipment as appropriate and other duties as assigned. The RPN will participate as a member of the Float Pool, Multidisciplinary Team and the Nursing Team at the Ajax site on Medicine/Health Aging program units. As an individual practitioner, the nurse will maintain competence and professionalism relevant to current practice.

The nurse will be responsible for maintaining the health record according to hospital policy, procedure and standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (in good standing);
  • Registered Practical Nurse Diploma from an accredited community college;
  • Current B.C.L.S. certificate;
  • Recent medical-surgical experience and evidence of recent related continuing education;
  • Coronary Care I course (or equivalent) required OR must enroll in the next available Lakeridge Health Telemetry course and successfully complete upon hire;
  • Demonstrated self-motivation regarding continuing education in areas of patient assessment, patient education, leadership and related Clinical Specialties;
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to change in patient care assignments, patient care units and hospital sites within the Corporation;
  • Ability to lift, turn, transfer patients with the use of mechanical lifts;
  • Demonstrated skills in providing patient education and sharing knowledge of expected outcomes and care;
  • Evidence of sound organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to work well in stressful situations;
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work well with patients, families, all levels of staff and the community;
  • Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public;
  • Must have a satisfactory performance record;
  • Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy; and
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, and environmental safety and participation in regular in service education sessions in this area.
